Frequently Asked Questions

"Hi, I've been a registered user of Bubbles for a long time. Now I'm playing XBubbles and it doesn't seem the same. I remember that the playing field used to be larger. Now, even at the Large setting, it seems like the Classic game's medium, or small. also, is my memory playing tricks on me or was 3 the lowest number of new balls in the original game? I am finding that games end too quickly, either because the board isn't big enough, or too many new balls are added each time, or both..."

XBubbles 1.2 has minimum number of ball set to 3 AND it has "Huge" (15 by 15) game field size.

"I recently downloaded Bubbles and we are giving it a try. However, the program shares the same creator code as Bubble Trouble from Ambrosia (Bubb) and ends up changing my Bubble Trouble application icon to the bubbles icon. I tried changing Bubbles to BUbb but it has no effect. Any suggestions?"

Apple Computer supports special data base for creator/file type registration (check out Creator Code Registration FAQ). When I was choosing creator for Bubbles I checked this database and found 'Bubb' free to use. So, I claimed it and now it officialy belongs to Bubbles. I have no ideas why Ambrosia didn't do the same. Sorry for this is annoying accident, but I really can't help you here.

XBubbles does't not have this problem because it's truly native MacOSX bundle.

If you want to have both programs installed on your machine you could change the type of any one app and rebuild desktop database afterwards. For that restart your Mac and hold "Option"+"Command" keys during the boot time.

"Once I registered I thought I could play the 'large' size game. But it still isn't an option? How come?"

The size of game field depends on monitor resolution you have. So, if you would like to play 'large' game the resolution of your monitor has to be more than 832 x 624. If your Macintosh supports that resolution you can set it by "Monitors & Sound" control panel or using Control Strip. Any way to change resolution is acceptable.

"Is there Windows version?"

We don't do Windows, sorry...
